ETIAS Requirements for Paraguayan Citizens

Starting in 2022, Paraguayan travellers who wish to travel to Europe will be required to have a European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS) visa waiver attached to their passport.

ETIAS is not a visa. It is a travel authorisation or visa waiver similar to the US ESTA or the Canadian eTA. It was developed with the intention of pre-checking travellers to help strengthen the borders of the Schengen Zone for both tourists and locals.

Unlike many other visa waivers and authorizations, this new travel permit will not require travellers to apply for their ETIAS in person at an embassy or other government office. Instead, travellers can do the entire process online by completing the application form and paying a processing fee.

The electronic processing gives busy travellers an extra level of flexibility, as they do not need to submit piles of paperwork, take time to visit an embassy in-person or have an interview with an immigration officer. In fact, it takes most people less than 15 minutes to go through the entire process from start to finish.

Are Paraguayan Citizens eligible to apply for ETIAS visa waiver?

Paraguayan citizens will be pleased to know that they are eligible to apply for the simplified ETIAS visa waiver program.

This ETIAS program is valid for travel to all 26 countries that are currently part of the Schengen Zone. As part of the agreement, it allows travellers to stay in the Schengen area for 90 days at a time within a 180-day period. Holidaymakers are also able to enter and exit the Schengen zone multiple times as long as they are within the 90-day time limit.
Likewise, travellers will be able to enjoy the same unrestricted movement between Schengen zone countries thanks to a borderless agreement.

The ETIAS for Paraguayan Citizens is valid for 3 years. Once the validity is up, visitors will need to reapply for their ETIAS using the same process as before.

What documents do Paraguayan nationals need to obtain ETIAS?

European Union authorities have created a simple set of ETIAS requirements for Paraguayan citizens who wish to apply for their travel authorisation. They include the following items:

  • Be in possession of a valid Paraguay-issued passport. The passport must be valid for at least 3 months from the traveller’s date of arrival in the Schengen zone.
  • A valid email address where applicants can receive notifications about their ETIAS
  • A valid debit or credit card that will be used to pay the ETIAS processing fee

Visitors whose passport does not meet the validity requirement or are in danger of having an expired passport are advised to renew it before applying for ETIAS.

Once all of these requirements are met, holidaymakers can go ahead and apply for their ETIAS visa waiver.

The ETIAS Application process for Paraguayan Citizens

Visitors can apply for this European travel permit online by filling out the ETIAS Application for Paraguayan Citizens. This form will ask the them to list details such as:

  • The applicant’s full name
  • Date of birth and place of birth
  • Citizenship
  • Gender
  • Home address
  • Valid email address
  • Passport number and date of issue/expiration

Applicants will also be required to write a few words about their intended trip itinerary, including the expected port of entry and what they plan to do in the Schengen zone.

They may also need to provide supporting documents alongside their application.

Before submitting the application for review, we advise applicants to go through the form and make sure that the information is correct and accurate.

Every piece of information that is submitted via the ETIAS application is checked against multiple international security databases, such as Interpol. Incorrect or misleading information will cause the application to be rejected by the European authorities. In this case, travellers will need to reapply for their ETIAS authorization.

At the end of the application, visitors will need to pay the processing fee with a valid debit or credit card. Once that is complete, they can successfully submit their ETIAS application.

How Long Does it Take to Get ETIAS from Paraguay?

Once a traveller submits their ETIAS application, it usually takes a few minutes to be accepted and granted. However, in some cases, it may take up to 3 business days in case of delays or the need for further investigation.

Petitioners will receive their ETIAS visa waiver via email.  Once it is approved, it will be sent to the email address provided on the application.

It is recommended visitors print out their ETIAS travel permit and take it with them to the first point of entry into the European Union.
