Starting in 2021, Paraguayan travelers who wish to travel to Europe will be required to have a European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS) visa waiver attached to their passport. This new program was developed with the intention of pre-checking travelers to help strengthen the borders of the Schengen Zone for both tourists and locals.
Unlike many other visas and authorizations, the new waiver will not require travelers to apply for their ETIAS in person at an embassy or other government office. Instead, travelers can do the entire process online by completing the application form and paying a processing fee. This gives busy travelers an extra level of flexibility, as they do not need to submit piles of paperwork, take time to visit an embassy in-person, or have an interview with an immigration officer. In fact, it takes most travelers less than 15 minutes to go through the entire process from start to finish.
Are Paraguayan Citizens eligible to apply for ETIAS visa waiver?
Paraguayan citizens will be pleased to know that they are eligible to apply for the simplified ETIAS visa waiver program.
This ETIAS program is valid for travel to all 26 countries that are currently part of the Schengen Zone. As part of the agreement, it allows travelers to stay in the Schengen area for 90 days at a time within a 180-day period. Travelers are also able to enter and exit the Schengen zone multiple times as long as they are within the 90-day time limit.
Likewise, travelers will be able to enjoy the same unrestricted movement between Schengen zone countries thanks to a borderless agreement.
The ETIAS for Paraguayan Citizens is valid for three years. Once the validity is up, travelers will need to reapply for their ETIAS using the same process as before.
What documents do Paraguayan need to obtain ETIAS?
European Union authorities have created a simple set of ETIAS Requirements for Paraguayan Citizens who wish to apply for their visa waiver. They include the following items:
- Be in possession of a valid Paraguay-issued passport. The passport must be valid for at least 3 months from the traveler’s date of arrival in the Schengen zone.
- A valid email address where travelers can receive notifications about their ETIAS
- A valid debit or credit card that will be used to pay the ETIAS processing fee
Travelers who do not have the required validity on their passport or are in danger of having an expired passport are advised to renew it before applying for the ETIAS.
Once all of these requirements are met, travelers can go ahead and apply for their ETIAS visa waiver.
The ETIAS Application process for Paraguayan Citizens
Travelers can apply for the ETIAS visa waiver online by filling out the ETIAS Application for Paraguayan Citizens. This form will ask the travelers to list details such as:
- The traveler’s full name
- Date of birth and place of birth
- Home address
- Valid email address
- Passport number and date of issue/expiration
Applicants will also be required to write a few words about their intended trip itinerary, including the expected port of entry and what they plan to do in the Schengen zone.
Applicants may also be required to provide supporting documents for their application.
Before submitting the application for review, we advise all applicants to go through the form and double check to make sure that the information is correct and accurate. Every piece of information that is submitted via the ETIAS application is checked against multiple international security databases, such as Interpol. Incorrect or misleading information will cause the application to be rejected by the European authorities. In this case, travelers will need to reapply for their ETIAS authorization.
At the end of the application, travelers will need to pay the processing fee with a valid debit or credit card. Once that is complete, they can successfully submit their ETIAS application.
How Long Does it Take to Get ETIAS from Paraguay?
Once a traveler submits their ETIAS application, it usually takes a few minutes to be accepted and granted. However, in some cases it may take up to three business days in case of delays or the need for further investigation.
Travelers will receive their ETIAS visa waiver via the email address they provided on the application once they have been approved. Travelers will be required to print out this ETIAS visa waiver and take it with them to the first point of entry into the European Union.
