ETIAS Requirements for Mexican Citizens

From 2021 onward, individuals traveling to the Schengen Area on a Mexican passport will be required to obtain an ETIAS for Mexican Citizens. The ETIAS, or European Travel Information and Authorization System, is a new visa waiver program that will be available to citizens of 60 countries around the world. It is intended to strengthen European borders, reduce incidents of terrorism within the Schengen Area, and increase public safety in Schengen countries for residents and tourists alike. While the ETIAS does not guarantee entry into the Schengen Area, once granted, it will allow holders to enter any of the 26 Schengen member states and to travel freely between them.

While Mexican nationals will not need to visit an embassy or consulate to receive an ETIAS, they will nonetheless be required to submit an application and obtain their ETIAS prior to visiting the Schengen Area. Since the ETIAS application process is completed online, however, Mexicans can submit their application from anywhere in the world, not just from Mexico. This makes ETIAS Application for Mexican Citizens quicker and easier than applying for a traditional Schengen visa.

Once granted, the ETIAS for Mexican Citizens permits entry into and travel within the Schengen Area for up to 90 days within a 180-day period. During this period, Mexican passport holders may exit and re-enter the Schengen area multiple times on the same ETIAS, but leaving the Schengen Area will not reset their 90-day permitted period of stay.

ETIAS Requirements for Mexican Citizens state that all Mexican nationals applying for an ETIAS for Mexican Citizens must possess a valid Mexican passport. Furthermore, this passport must remain valid for at least three months following the holder’s intended date of arrival to the Schengen Area.

  • A valid email address — all communication regarding the ETIAS applicant’s application status will be sent via email, including updates on application processing, the final decision on whether the application has been accepted or rejected, and any appeals of that decision
